The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

A History of African Christianity 1950-1975 by Adrian Hastings

This book surveys the history of Christianity throughout sub-Saharan Africa during the third quarter of the 20th century. It begins in 1950 at a time when the churches were still for the most part emphatically part of the colonial order and it takes the story on from there across the coming of political independence and the transformations of the 1960s and early 1970s. The attempt is made to treat the three main sections of African Christianity—Protestants, Roman Catholic and Independent—roughly equally. This book will be an invaluable tool for anyone concerned with contemporary African history or with the world Christianity in the twentieth century.
