FEATURING - A first book of South African Flowers by H.M.L Bolus

Posted on December 21, 2020

The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:

A first book of South African Flowers by H.M.L Bolus.

The publication of this book in 1928 was an effort of the Wild Flower Protection Society to spread a wider knowledge of South African Flowers. The main part of this book deals with those species, which because they were in danger of becoming extinct from various causes were protected by law from being destroyed. The selection made embraces members of fourteen families, which in their turn represent all larger groups into which plants have been arranged when floral characters are used as basis of classification.

This book is available at Special Collections, housed on level 5 of the Merensky 2 Library, and is part of our Africana (ZA) Collection.

The Special Collections unit of the Department of Library Services plays a stewardship role in the acquisition and preservation of the Library's rare and valuable information resources, making them accessible to students, staff and researchers, as well as safeguarding them for future generations.
