The Special Collections Book of the Week this week is:
More Than Staples & Glue: a glimpse into heritage conservation at the University of Pretoria Museums 2008-2018 by Isabelle McGinn and Sian Tiley-Nel.
Conservation is only one aspect of university museum and collections management, but in many respects it is the most important, as the collections form the principal resource from which all other curatorial activities flow. This commemorative publication marks a decade of conservation within the UP Arts Conservation laboratory and sheds light on the expertise and dedication of the skilled conservators and curators in this department. It also highlights the immense efforts and lengths they go to in maintaining these museum treasures—ensuring that they are exhibited, stored, protected and made accessible in the best possible conditions—thereby preserving them for future generations.
