Communiqué on recent appointments

The University of Pretoria would like to announce some new additions to the UP family. 
 
Ms Sithembile Mbuyisa is the new Director of the Department of Human Resources.
She has 19 years of experience, of which eight are at an executive leadership level. 
Her experience includes the setting up of human resource functions for small- to medium-sized organisations, partnering with business leaders to build human resource solutions that are fit for purpose, including policy development, talent management, performance management, organisation and leadership development, change management, employee and industrial relations management. 
 
Ms Siphokazi Mlaba is the new Head: Legal Services. Ms Mlaba was previously employed as Director: Employee Relations at the University of the Witwatersrand, where she was responsible for implementing the university’s Employee Relations Plan and providing strategic input on the monitoring of legal and compliance risks, in relation to labour law.
Ms Mlaba, whose career in higher education spans a period of five years, has extensive legal experience at both the corporate level, as well as having practised as an Attorney. 
 
Professor Barend Erasmus is the new Dean in the Faculty of Natural and Agricultural Sciences (NAS). He is a UP alumnus and obtained his PhD (Zoology), BScHons (Zoology) and BSc (Zoology) from the University of Pretoria. Prior to his appointment as Dean at UP, he was the Director of the Global Change Institute (GCI) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) since 2014, where he spent most of his working career. Outside of academia, he is an avid sportsperson who has excelled in the sport of fencing, winning silver and bronze medals at the 1998 Commonwealth Fencing Championships.
 
Mr Kgomotso Legari is the new Director: Residence Affairs and Accommodation. Mr Legari was the Director: Campus Housing and Residence Life at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he was responsible for the general management of the Department and for providing strategic leadership. Mr Legari’s career in higher education spans a period of 19 years. He has extensive higher education experience at both the institutional and systems levels.
