UP Mamelodi Campus hosts SAARMSTE Doctoral Research School

From 3 to 6 July 2019, the Mamelodi Campus hosted the Southern African Association of Research in Mathematics Science and Technology Education (SAARMSTE) annual doctoral research school.

The Research School targets doctoral students and early career researchers (including postdoctoral fellows and members of staff less than five years from PhD) where facilitators from South Africa and abroad assists doctoral and postdoctoral participants to complete their doctoral studies and publication requirements.

The Research School, hosted at the Future Africa campus of the University of Pretoria, was attended by 62 candidates from 16 institutions, led by scholars from the US, South Africa and Germany. The programme included workshops for Doctoral students and Early Career Academics focusing on topics such as Data Analysis, Literature Review, Writing a research proposal, Writing for publication to name a few.

The research school ended with celebrations in the form of a gala dinner hosted by the Mamelodi campus with Professor Nthabiseng Ogude, dean of the campus, delivering a keynote address.

Hosting the Research School is part of the University celebrating 10 years of the campus offering the University of Pretoria’s flagship Extended Curriculum Programmes (ECPs).

The year-long celebration includes a number of activities culminating in a national colloquium on extended curriculum programmes hosted in partnership with the Special Interest Group (SIG) of the Higher Education Learning and Teaching Association of Southern Africa (HELTASA).
