MEET: Estelle Grobbler, librarian at Faculty of Health Sciences, Prinshof Campus

1. Who is Estelle?
I was born in Vanderbijlpark and I grew up in an incredibly loving and supportive family. Vanderbijlpark was home to me until I got married and came to Centurion where I have been since now. I am a librarian at the medical library and I love every moment of my job.
 
2. Tell us about your job here at UP?
I am an information specialist at the medical library of the Health Sciences Faculty in Prinshof Campus. I provide a dedicated service to both students and staff of the School of Health Systems and Public Health, Dermatology, Anaesthesiology, Cardiology and the Research office.
I meet staff and students on a daily basis to keep up to date with information needs and strengthen good relationships. I am always excited about my work in the information field and I love going the extra mile with a big smile.
 
My services include:
• Information consultation and delivery
• Internet research and database searches
• Enquiries on information material available
• Information literacy training 
• Assists students with inter library loans
• Assist departments with the purchase of relevant resources (books, e-books, journals, CDs & DVDs, etc.)
 
3. What do you enjoy most about your job and why?
Information literacy training. To see the satisfaction on the faces of students and staff when realising they will be able to search, retrieve, and evaluate information efficiently from all the sources available.
 
4. What is your least favourite part about your job?
            To get up on an icy winter morning. To drive to work in traffic.
 
5. What would be your top suggestion for making UP an even better place to work?
To provide wellness practices, can be through healthy food, physical exercise or mindfulness.
 
6. If you were not an information specialist, what else would you have liked to be?
Owning my own catering business, specialising in cakes for special occasions.
 
7. Tell us about who Estelle is away from work?
My hobby is baking and decorating cakes for special occasions. I love travelling with my husband and we are part of a circle of friends that travel together.
 
8. What are your goals for the next five years?
To invest time into my cake decorating hobby as often as possible, and to share my experience on social media (blog, videos).
 
9. Is there a favourite piece of advice you have received in life that you would like to share with our collegues?
Aim high in whatever you do and take care of yourself constantly.
