The School of the Arts presents UP Lunch Hour Concert

Posted on February 13, 2019

“The only love affair I have ever had was with music.” – Maurice Ravel

Come and celebrate Valentine’s Day and the start of the 2019 Lunch-Hour Concerts with the beautiful music of Cherry Pill. The name Cherry Pill is a metaphor for life – the sweet and joyful, mixed with the bitter moments, to create a rich experience full of twists and turns.

Date: 14 February 2019

Time: 12:40 – 13:20

Venue: Musaion, Hatfield Campus, University of Pretoria

Rory Gaddin (guitar) and Kristel Birkholtz (violin) are a husband-and-wife duo that’s been performing together for many years, and has collaborated on four studio albums ranging from classical music to Christmas music, and a singer-songwriter album of original vocal, violin and guitar music composed by the duo. Cherry Pill’s sound is a blend of musical styles ranging from acoustic folk to upbeat pop-rock, with strong influences from classical and jazz music. Thoughtful lyrics and sweet vocal harmonies are underpinned by the soaring melodies of Kristel’s classically trained violin-playing, and Rory’s blues- and rock-infused guitar licks.

Audience members can look forward to music by Johannes Brahms, Giacomo Puccini and popular and film music composers such as Gerald Marks and Vittorio Monti. The duo will also be selling some of their CDs after the concert, so be sure to bring your debit and credit cards to purchase last-minute Valentine’s Day gifts for your loved ones.

Entrance is free and everybody is welcome!

Be sure not to miss this performance!
