UP’s Tuks Camerata choir goes viral with video of isiXhosa “Bawo” rendition

The University of Pretoria’s Tuks Camerata choir, conducted by Michael Barrett, released their video recording of "Bawo", sung in isiXhosa on Facebook and YouTube. The video had more than 16 000 views on Facebook and an additional 1 000 views on YouTube in only 72 hours!

Tuks Camerata celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2018, and has received many national and international accolades over the years. The choir is made up of over 80 UP students from a variety of study fields including medicine, engineering, theology, law, education, economics, accounting, plant sciences and music.

Tuks Camerata was the host choir at the recent 2018 World Choir Games held in Tshwane, which saw over 16 000 singers in more than 350 choirs from around the world compete and exchange values and cultural practices through music.
