In her lecture, Dr Chappin will explore crowdsourcing for innovation. As the name implies, crowdsourcing means outsourcing to the crowd. More and more organisations have started to make use of crowdsourcing for innovation-related questions and problems. To introduce the topic, Dr Chappin will discuss the background to crowdsourcing and present the results of some of her co-authored papers on crowdsourcing for innovation. Her initial focus will be on how the design and process influence the outcome of crowdsourcing events, after which she will share her insights on what explains the success of ideas and ideators.

Brief biographical sketch

Maryse Chappin is an assistant professor at the Innovation Studies group of the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. After being awarded a PhD degree in Innovation Studies by Utrecht University, she worked as an assistant professor in the Department of Organisation Studies at Tilburg University, but since 2013 she has once again been affiliated to the Innovation Studies group in Utrecht.

Her main areas of interest are eco-innovation and crowdsourcing. She studies the success of inter-organisational collaborations in the context of eco-innovation, as well as the collaborations themselves. She is also interested in the effect of the institutional environment on the eco-innovation process.
