General waste recycling

Posted on August 08, 2016

The Campus Services Division (Waste and Environmental Management) under the Department of Facilities Management is responsible for the removal of general and hazardous waste at all campuses of the University. Following the 2025 Strategic Plan, the University has decided to recycle in support of the University's initiatives with regard to sustainability.

Currently all residences are provided with orange (non-recyclable) and blue (recyclable) bins. There are also bins placed in the dining halls and libraries that will enable individuals to recycle. The restaurants and campuses are also supplied with galvanized wire cages for the recycling of cardboard.

Paper recycling takes place every week on Tuesdays and Thursdays - the removal of waste paper, old papers and textbooks are removed off campus.

In 2014, when the process started; 288 tons of waste was disposed from all the campuses of the University. In 2015, it grew to 627 tons of waste.

Get involved and make a difference.
