The University is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Nthabiseng Audrey Ogude as Dean of the Mamelodi Campus with effect from 4 August 2016.

Professor Ogude has been a higher education consultant since March 2015. She previously held the positions of Vice-Chancellor and Principal at Tshwane University of Technology (TUT), Vice-Principal at the University of Pretoria (UP) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University (NMMU).

She obtained a BSc Upper Class Honours in Biology and Chemistry at the National University of Lesotho, an MSc in Analytical Chemistry at the University of Nairobi, a Postgraduate Diploma in Tertiary Education at the University of South Africa (Unisa) and a PhD in Chemistry (specialisation in Chemistry Education) at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

During her 15 years as an academic Professor Ogude initiated the Young Women's Science Network and the Centre for Research in Gender Studies at TUT. In addition to the leadership positions mentioned above, she was Dean of Research at Technikon SA, Associate Professor in Analytical Chemistry at Unisa and Head of the Department of Chemistry at Vista University. She was also a Research Associate at the University of Transkei, a Lecturer at the National University of Lesotho and a Junior Lecturer and PhD student at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits).

She has published more than 40 papers in accredited and peer-reviewed journals and occasional publications, as well as refereed conference proceedings. Her research interests lie in science/chemistry education and she is passionate about student access and success.

Professor Ogude is a 2006−2007 American Council on Higher Education Fellow, belongs to several professional organisations and served as chairperson and member of a number of university committees and external councils and boards. She also chaired the HESA (Universities SA) Teaching and Learning Strategy Group and the Admissions Committee. She is the current chairperson of the Institutional Audit Committee of the Higher Education Quality Committee.

The University congratulates Professor Ogude on her appointment and wishes her well in her future career as Dean of the Mamelodi Campus and member of the University's senior management team.
