A picture is worth a thousand words. In celebration of World Malaria Day (WMD) 2016, the University of Pretoria Centre for Sustainable Malaria Control (UP CSMC) is looking towards updating its photo database through a University-wide photo competition.

Photos must:

i) have as their subject anything related to malaria (be creative),

ii) preferably be in .png or .bmp format, and

iii) be of good quality.

The best photos will be featured on the UP CSMC website (, Facebook (UPEndMalaria) and Twitter (@UPEndMalaria) for a month, and will be used on other marketing material and in future Centre initiatives. The overall winner must be available on 25 April (WMD) to receive a mystery prize sponsored by Goodbye Malaria.

This competition is open to all staff and students of the University of Pretoria. Submit your photos via email to [email protected]. Include a short description on what is depicted in the photo, when and where it was taken, what equipment was used (camera specs, microscope magnification etc), your name, department, job description (staff) or field and year of study.

The deadline for submission of photos is Wednesday, 20 April 2016 and the winner will be notified on Friday, 22 April 2016.
