Invitation: 'The South African economy - time to face the music'

Posted on February 05, 2016

The Department of Library Services invites you to attend this lecture, which will be presented by the Efficient Group economist Francois Stofberg.

Since 2008 the South African economy has shown a gradual and consistent decline. In 2015, the accumulation of bad government policies, weak political leadership, an oversized and inefficient government and a hint of foreign pressures finally reached a climax and it all came tumbling down. Expectations for 2016 are bleak, inflation is set to get out of hand and the economy may even enter recession territory. With everything balancing on a knife edge, it is time to face the music, so come and listen to our interpretation of current economic affairs to find out whether there is still a way to turn it all around, and how government’s finances play a role. One thing is clear: the new-old Minister of Finance has his work cut out for him and one can only hope that his new ’immortal’ status can help him – and us!
