ABSTRACT

The Research Centre in Sex, Health and Society at La Trobe University, where Prof Dowsett works, recently received a score of five (the highest possible score, indicating ‘evidence of outstanding performance well above world standard’) in the Australian national research excellence assessment (equivalent to the RAE in the UK). This is the second time in a row that the centre has received the maximum score in this assessment.

Prof Dowsett will discuss his experience of establishing and sustaining such an outstanding research centre and will engage with the audience on the strategies that can be used to ensure that a centre of this kind flourishes and becomes recognised as a world-class centre of research excellence.
