Prof Nthabiseng Ogude, the acting Vice-Chancellor and Principal congratulated the SRC elect and said they have been entrusted with a formidable task of representing the interest of the student body as a whole.
She further pointed out that the SRC has a key role to play in enhancing transformation and integration at the University of Pretoria. “From the diversity of the composition of the SRC, it is evident that students have spoken, and we have a sound structure that will be able to fulfill this role”, she said.
Mthokozisi Nkosi, fourt-year Bachelor of Agricultural Science, and newly elected President of the SRC, said this year’s SRC marks a new beginning of the University of Pretoria as Tuks students have finally realised the importance of tolerance and inclusivity. “Your SRC is united and inclusively represent you in any of structures of the University of Pretoria”, said Nkosi.
He called on all different constituencies at the University of Pretoria to work together in attaining the most important objective of making this year ‘the year of the students’. “Not only will that add genuine passionate commitment to the exceptional representation of Tuks students, but also a higher level of maturity”, said Nkosi.
The newly appointed Director of Student Affairs Dr Matete Madiba welcomed and congratulated the new SRC with “high expectations from the community of the University of Pretoria”.
The SRC took the oath of pledge read out to them by the Chief Justice of Constitutional Tribunal, Wesley Timm.
