Park-and-ride facility provides relief for limited parking on and around campus

Posted on August 15, 2011

Students and staff members living within walking or cycling distance from the campuses may also make use of this shuttle service.

The shuttle between LC de Villiers Sports Grounds and the Hatfield Campus departs every 15 minutes, starting at 06:45, with the last shuttle departing at 22:00. A shuttle service between the Groenkloof- and the Hatfield Campus is also available. Departure times are every half an hour, starting at 06:30, with the last shuttle departing at 22:00.

A timetable and route map will be displayed in each shuttle. It will also be published in Campus News, on the student and staff portals and on the other communication channels of the University. When using this service, staff members and students will be expected to show a valid staff- or student card on request.

With this attempt, the University hopes to reduce the congestion of traffic on and around the Campus. In this way, more parking spaces will be available for service providers and visitors to the Campus. The use of this service will help to reduce the stress levels of the students and staff members who previously had to traverse the congested parking areas. Another aim of this initiative, in line with the green movement, is to reduce the carbon emissions and noise levels associated with traffic congestion.
