The Uongozi Leadership Institute approached the ALCRL to form part of a workshop on the challenges related to leadership and sustainable development in Africa. During proceedings, the Uongozi Institute requested that the ALCRL become a research partner of Uongozi to develop a possible methodology for a research project on the role of leadership in bringing about sustainable development across the continent.
The project is aimed at building a pan-African research network to write up case studies on leadership- and sustainability-related issues, as well as identifying the key enablers and disablers for African leaders involved in ensuring the economic, social and environmental sustainability within African states.
The resultant theory of this project will be disseminated in a number of research articles and reports, and will serve as the basis for a pan-African leadership development programme focusing on sustainable development. Additionally the project aims to link the various researchers working on leadership and sustainability in Africa to form a strong network.
This groundbreaking four-phased project is on course to commence with its first three phases in the second half of 2012, engaging with leaders across private, public and civil society across Eastern Africa. The fourth, pan-African phase of the project is due to start early in 2013 and will conclude in 2016 with a research report on subsequent findings.
