Political Sciences professor wins prestigious award

Prof Olivier holds a doctorate from the University of Pretoria and has since the late 1960s held academic positions at the Universities of Zululand, Pretoria and Johannesburg (formerly the Rand Afrikaans University). As a career diplomat, he served as South Africa’s first diplomatic representative in the former Soviet Union and subsequently as South Africa’s first Ambassador in the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan. Professor Olivier was a founding member and President of the South African Association of Political Studies (SAAPS), the official organ of the disciplines of Political Science and International Relations in South Africa, and was the first editor of Politikon, the official journal of SAAPS. He has published several books, monographs and articles on various topics, among others on the foreign policies of South Africa, Russia and the European Union.

Congratulations to Professor Olivier on this very appropriate recognition of his lifelong contribution to the development of Political Science in South Africa.
