The University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS) has been ranked in 67th place in the top 100 executive MBA programmes in the latest Financial Times (FT) Executive MBA Rankings 2011 released today.
GIBS is the only business school in Africa to appear in the FT Executive MBA Rankings 2011.
The three areas the survey focused on were:
1. Career progress of alumni (salary today, salary increase, career progress, work experience and aims achieved doing the executive MBA);
2. The diversity of the school (students, faculty, internationalisation); and
3. Idea generation (doctoral outputs and faculty research)
In addition to being the number one business school in Africa for its executive MBA programme, GIBS alumni also rank in the top 35 schools for graduate salaries in dollar terms. The latter ranking measures the average business school alumni salary three years after graduation. The business school is also rated in the top 50 for its percentage of women students and faculty, as well as in the top 50 percent for its international course experience, which measures the percentage of classroom teaching hours that are carried out outside the country in which the business school is situated.
The latest FT rankings reaffirm the contribution that GIBS has made to management education since its establishment in 2000.
Shireen Chengadu, executive director: academic programmes at GIBS said: “To be ranked amongst the leading business schools globally is a great achievement for the school and speaks highly of the quality of students admitted to the programme and the career progress of our graduates.”
Commenting on the announcement, Prof Nick Binedell, director of GIBS, said: “I am delighted that GIBS has been recognised as a top-rated business school for its MBA programme. The FT ranking demonstrates that GIBS’ academic offering and quality is amongst the best in the world.
“Furthermore, the recognition of our executive MBA strengthens our efforts to be the leading business school in South Africa and to significantly improve the competitive performance of individuals and organisations through business education in dynamic markets.”
