Accessibility by Bus Rapid Transit: Community Workshops

NG Lynnwood, 439 Sussex Avenue, Lynnwood, Pretoria
10/07/2018 - 12/07/2018
17:00 to 20:00
The University of Pretoria (UP) is testing an open-source, web-based, interactive accessibility tool named CoAXs (Collaborative Accessibility-Based Stakeholder Engagement for Public Transportation Planning) to engage citizens in local planning of their transport solutions. The technology is being tested in collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

To test this interactive tool, UP is hosting a series of workshops in which community members are invited to make use of the tool to assess and discuss the accessibility impacts of transport projects. The workshops will be hosted in Tshwane and the transport project focus will be the contentious Line 2B expansion of the A Re Yeng Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system between Hatfield and Menlyn. Participants will use CoAXs to explore the accessibility impacts resulting from changes in the operations of Line 2B as well as changes in the placement of the feeder routes. To gauge the effectiveness of the tool, participants will be required to fill out pre- and post-workshop surveys.

These workshops provide a platform for robust discussions around the BRT and the role it plays in Tshwane, as well as opportunities for mutual learning and co-creation of the future of public transport in our city. All community members with an interest in transport are encouraged to participate in these workshops.

UP will host two community workshops. If you would like further details or you would like to register to participate in a workshop, please visit http://www.up.ac.za/en/centre-for-transport-development/article/2699116/using-accessibility-as-a-participatory-planning-tool.
