Addressing the climate emergency is the most pressing imperative of our time. Just like you, many students are particularly aware of the urgency to create climate resilience, and Siemens Gamesa and the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN) are joining forces to give you a chance to be part of the solution as an innovative driving force towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We are proud to announce that the University of Pretoria is joining the first edition of “Universities for Goal 13”, an annual award for undergraduate and graduate students of the SDSN global network of knowledge centres.
We are searching for teams of 4-5 students that want to create practical solutions to achieve environmental sustainability (SDG 13) from different disciplinary perspectives.
To participate in the challenge, you will need to work from a multidisciplinary approach and consider technological, legal, economic, spatial and social aspects of the energy transition.
The hard facts:
The project brings undergraduate and graduate students across disciplines together to produce solutions for energy transition and environmental sustainability while supporting the development of their regions. Students will be mentored by SIEMENS Gamesa experts to ensure that their solutions have disruptive potential, are aligned with the SDGs and are technically feasible. However students will be responsible for choosing the problem that they want to solve.
How you can participate:
To participate in the award, start thinking about a problem related to the Sustainable Development Goals that you want to tackle. This can be a topic of local, regional, or global importance. What matters is that it could be applied to other contexts facing the same problem at a later stage.
Once you start brainstorming, think of other disciplines that you need to bring on board and form a team with other students.
The competition will start in January 2022. To register your interest, please click this link: https://forms.gle/G6SMdrSKTR7GpwwH9
