The programme consists of core modules of which the student must choose two, attendance at the TNM module, a major subject (elective module) which extends over both years of study with a final
examination in the final year of study and a mini-dissertation related to the major subject.
For candidates with a focus on Forensic Odontology, the programme consists of two core modules in Oral Biology and Molecular Pathology and the major subject (elective module) Forensic Odontology (FSC 820), which extends over both years of study with a final examination in the final year of study, the TNM research module, and a mini-dissertation related to the major subject. The duration of the course is 2 years.
A student must pass all the required core modules (as per course they registered for) at the University of Pretoria.
Only candidates who have met all the requirements for the MSc degree in their discipline, passed all the prerequisite modules; completed all applicable training as prescribed by the Head of Department concerned; and completed the required research component for the degree, will be allowed to write the final examination (exit examination) after which they will obtain the MSc qualification.
The student must submit and pass the research component done either by publication or a mini dissertation, on an approved topic related to the major subject.
The stipulations of the General Academic Regulations apply. A minimum pass mark of 50% is required for all modules including the mini-dissertation.
The mini-dissertation research component related to the major subject will be examined and graded accordingly on whether the dissertation complies with the set requirements.
Forensic Odontology: Select the following core modules: MDB 802, MPX 802, and TNM 802 = 50 credits
Oral Biology: Select MDB 802 and TNM 802 and one of the following modules (ANA 850, FSG 802, MPX 802 = 100 credits
All other disciplines: Select only two core modules: ANA 850 or FSG 802 or ANP 802 or MDB 802 or GTH 802 and TNM 802 = 100 credits
All elective modules are attendance modules in the first year and only examinable at the end of the final year.
