Seasonal forecast for March 2022 available

Posted on March 16, 2022

In agreement with most other models, the UP model predicts a transition into ENSO-neutral conditions during winter. There are enhanced probabilities for wet conditions over the larger summer rainfall region during autumn. In contrast, the northern-northeastern areas are expected to be dry. The SW Cape is expected to experience a slow start to its winter rainfall season, with enhanced probabilities for below normal rainfall during autumn and early winter. Below-average rainfall conditions can extend into winter.

Cooler and near-normal maximum temperatures are expected over the central and western parts of the region at the beginning of the forecast period. In comparison, for the northern half of the region, warmer than average conditions are likely for the latter part of the forecast period.
