During February 2025, first-year veterinary nursing students at the University of Pretoria’s Faculty of Veterinary Science participated in the 1nSync First Year Concert, held at Hatfield campus.
The competition, which involved singing, dancing, and band performances, saw the students win second place across all faculties of the university. This achievement follows last year’s first place together with Health House.
The performance was organized by the executive committee of the Onderstepoort Para-Veterinary and Veterinary Student Committee (OPVSC), under the direction and choreography of Winston Gomba, the committee's External and Internal Culture Representative.
Being the biggest event of the University of Pretoria (UP) for first year students, different faculties, residences, day houses and other structures participate in this event. It is a singing and dancing competition where each group chooses a theme which their performance will address. Participants are given a week to prepare.
Despite their demanding academic schedules, the students worked diligently throughout the week, balancing their studies with rehearsals. Their efforts were supported by other students who assisted with props, organization, and teaching the first-year students. The team’s enthusiasm was evident, especially with their rallying chant, "Pets to heal and hearts to mend, BVN, we've got the blend!"
The performance showcased South African and international entertainment, highlighting the country's vibrant diversity through song and dance. This achievement was a proud moment for the faculty, reflecting both teamwork and creativity.
