Partnerships and collaboration  

One of the strategic objectives of the Faculty as outlined in its Strategic Plan is to establish new and to strengthen current partnerships with the following national and international research, educational, funding, and other agencies/ organizations:

National

  • Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Sokoine University of Agriculture, Morogoro, Tanzania
  • Royal Veterinary College, England
  • CIRAD, France
  • Instituto Zooprofilattics Spesimentale dell’Abruzzo e del Molise (Caporale Institute), Teramo, Italy

These MOUs and agreements resulted in an array of collaborative projects that have attracted substantial research funding to enlarge the research base and to support other core activities of the Faculty. 

The Faculty also collaborates on a research project basis with a number of international institutions including the Animal Health Institute, Pirbright, London; the Schools of Veterinary Medicine of the Universities of Tennessee and Colorado in the USA; the Centre for Tropical Veterinary Medicine, Edinburgh, Scotland and the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, Oslo. 

In the SADC Region there is an exchange of tutors and examiners for postgraduate courses between the Faculty and the Veterinary Faculties of Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Tanzania and Uganda. 

It is also a strategic objective of the Faculty to seek recognition from the following regional and other international organizations for our postgraduate training programmes or continuing professional development modules: SADC, OIE, IAEA and FAO or to be recognised by OIE and other international bodies as reference centre or collaborating centres. 

Other activities that contribute to the internationalization of the Faculty include the following:

• Attendance of international symposia, congresses, workshops by staff and postgraduate students of the Faculty

• Short-term study/research visits abroad of staff and students 

Most of the abovementioned activities are financed from outside money.
