Master's and Doctoral degree programmes and postgraduate funding

The Faculty of Veterinary Science aims to enhance the University's academic stature and visibility by focusing postgraduate education and research activities on harnessing institutional strengths, embedding institutional research themes, sustaining research output and impact, and broadening the University's research base.

Research and postgraduate education are central to the Faculty's commitment to support the University's long-term vision of becoming a leading research-intensive university in Africa.

In 2012, for example, the Faculty produced the largest number of M (53) and D-level graduates (18) in its history. An increase in output occurred in all departments. However, the Faculty's graduation index, in particular our master programmes, remains high. Through the implementation of postgraduate student-supervisor contracts for all postgraduate students as well as streamlining many of the postgraduate student and research policies and procedures the aim is to maintain this increase in postgraduate student output.
