Prof Cheryl McCrindle elected to the IDF Science and Programme Coordination Committee (SPCC)

A first informal meeting of the SPCC in Dublin on 30 September 2007 recommended a first SPCC teleconference to be organized in January/February 2008 as well as a meeting to take place in Paris, France on Saturday, 24 May 2008.

The main functions/task of the SPCC are briefly described as follows:
  • To ensure that the IDF's programme remains relevant to the changing needs of the dairy sector, balancing scientific integrity and industry applicability, and thus consider new areas of activity and changes in emphasis or priority in the IDF programme of work
  • To be alert to developments globally that may affect the dairy sector, such as initiatives by other international bodies at intergovernmental level or non-governmental level, and consider how the IDF should respond
  • To foresee issues that may affect the dairy sector which may become matters of public interest and concern and make provision for rapid access to objective information should the need arise and,
  • To ensure a balanced approach in confirming host countries for IDF events
Specific responsibilities will include the evaluation of proposals for new IDF work items including priority projects, endorsement of the venues and dates of future IDF events, and to establish a steering group to coordinate the activities of the Standing Committees and Task Forces of the IDF that are active in a particular domain.
