Bringing Animal Welfare to the SADC Region

Posted on January 09, 2024

The ISAE South African Workshop on Farm Animal Behaviour and Welfare, held in November 2023, was a comprehensive event focused on advancing animal welfare in the SADC region. UP's Department of Animal Science proudly collaborated with the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE) and the University of Stellenbosch to host this pioneering event.

It featured sessions on topics like farm animal welfare in the African context, societal impacts, on-farm welfare assessment, public health implications, and legislative aspects. The workshop included expert presentations and discussions, providing insights into current research, industry perspectives, and practical welfare assessment tools. It aimed to enhance understanding and promote welfare principles in African livestock farming.

Our Department would like to send a heartfelt thank you to all the speakers and organizers for their invaluable contributions to this event.
