Dr. Thando Ndarana, a senior lecturer in dynamic meteorology in GGM, NAS, received a C1 rating from the NRF. His main research interests are using basic dynamic meteorology concepts such as wave activity, energetics and potential vorticity to understand the underlying dynamical processes that govern the evolution of rainfall bearing weather systems that propagate across the South Atlantic Ocean and eventually affect South Africa. He supervises masters and doctoral students in this field. Ndarana is considered a leading dynamic meteorologist in the South African atmospheric science landscape, and enjoys international recognition as one of few scientists that drive dynamic meteorology research in the country. He has previously served as a science steering committee member of SPARC, which is a core project of the WMO's World Climate Research programme and was invited to serve in the International Commission of the Middle Atmosphere (ICMA)
