Two years ago GAAPS approached all South African universities offering courses in actuarial science to host an opportunity where students can meet representatives from the industry where they will be employed.  They offered to sponsor such an event in its totality.  UP was the only university who decided to seize this opportunity to offer its students maximum exposure to prospective employers. This year 18 companies attended the career fair and the students visited the exhibition between lectures.  A programme with the times of presentations by the companies as well as a short company profile was distributed to all students in advance.  This gave students the opportunity to plan their visit to the Fair.  The event was also advertised amongst Financial Engineering and Mathematical Statistics students.

Due to companies offering mentorship programmes, bursaries, vacation work as well as permanent employment, all the students irregardless of their year of study could benefit from this event. This also exposed the undergraduate students to the employment possibilities out there. By the number of CV’s that exchanged hands, we are sure that it was also a beneficial event for both the students and the companies that attended.
