The first part of the celebrations on 21 July 2008, will include a “Homecoming” celebration for all alumni in Agricultural Economics and Extension over the last seven decades. The evening festivities will incorporate a prestigious lecture which will form part of the University of Pretoria’s Centenary Celebrations and the Centenary Lecture Series.

The Department extends its invitation particularly to its alumni, who majored in either of the two disciplines to attend the threefold celebratory function. The first activity will start at 13:00. Former students will have the precious opportunity to network and interact with their former classmates in class reunions. This will take place on an especially reserved picnic area on the University’s much acclaimed Experimental Farm.

The second activity will be a prestigious event during which Group CEO of SANLAM and former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Pretoria, Prof Johan van Zyl, will deliver the Agricultural Economics Association of South Africa’s prestigious FR Tomlinson Memorial Lecture. The festivities will be taken to elegant heights by a formal dinner, which will set the perfect atmosphere to wrap up the momentous evening.
