The trees were donated to Nedbank for their staff volunteering environmentally beneficial project during August and September where the staff plant trees at Eco-Schools identified in Soweto, Alexandria and Mamelodi. This forms part of Nedbank’s Deep Green Day project. The Department also donated trees to the Fleur Primary School in Lyttleton and the SOS Village in Mamelodi for Arbor Day.
“We actively support efforts of the national Department of Water Affairs and Forestry and other stakeholders to conserve trees,” says The Department of Plant Science Head, Prof Marion Meyer. The department also reaches out to communities and joins hands with industry for the improvement of life in various communities. “It is never too late to hand a helping hand for the benefit of our environment and important to involve children in our conservation efforts from a very young age. Their enthusiasm can galvanize greater participation by parents and adults,” concludes Prof Meyer.
