Future Tukkies Explore UP's World-Class Libraries on #ChooseUP Day
The organisers of the Merensky 2 Library's #ChooseUP Day

On Saturday, 17 August, hundreds of local and international provisionally accepted students and their families flocked to the Merensky 2 Library, Oliver R. Tambo Law Library, and Education Library to experience our exceptional library facilities.

Our dedicated team members were eager to welcome the visitors! At the Merensky 2 Library, Elsabé Olivier and Zenzi Ntshabele greeted excited students and their parents in the library foyer, directing them to Gerda Ehlers’ team of enthusiastic helpers. These helpers escorted visitors through the library, sharing valuable information about our services, spaces, and resources. The visitors were also introduced to the Library MakerSpace, where Christelle Steyn and her student workers impressed everyone with their 3D scanners and 3D printers.

Gerda Ehlers, Coordinator of the Learning Centre, commented: “One of the Learning Centre’s key annual events is #ChooseUP Day in August. The positive feedback we received reflects the contributions of every professional and friendly team member. It’s clear that the library, with its impressive MakerSpace and extensive range of products and services, will greatly influence students’ decisions to choose UP as the university for their future. Both learners and parents will remember the library as a supportive and resourceful place essential for academic success.”

At the Groenkloof campus, the Education Library was represented by Rebecca Bapela, Eldorene Lombard, Randolf Pretorius, Paballo Motsau, and intern Kamogelo Mphuthi. Kamogelo reflected: “As the Education DLS staff, we had the pleasure of showing our prospective students and their parents around the Education Library. It was heartwarming to see their genuine interest in the library’s resources and services. We also took the opportunity to educate them about the digital library. Being able to share our knowledge and see their enthusiasm made the experience truly special.”

Thanks to Audrey Lenoge and her team members, Lubabalo Booi, Busisiwe Mmalefahlo, and Nonhle Mtshali, who welcomed prospective students outside the Oliver R. Tambo Law Library with a digital display.

Some of the comments received from the students were as follows:

- “What a great experience. It feels like home already. Can’t wait to come back!”

- “I learned so much. I will definitely come here to study, read, and play with the virtual reality tools. I can’t wait to see you again next year.”

- “What a cool library. This is the biggest library I have ever been in.”

- “Very beautiful, and the atmosphere is just amazing. I loved the tour.”

- “I felt like I was in a movie! I can’t wait to become a Tukkie!”

- “Very nice! Your facilities are impressive!”
