The IBM SPSS for Beginners workshop attracted 21 eager participants keen on enhancing their data interpretation and research presentation skills. Held from 09:00 to 12:30 on Saturday, 22 June 2024, at the Onderstepoort Campus, attendees immersed themselves in the world of statistical techniques. Research Commons Junior Information Assistant, Lehlogonolo Tabana, expertly guided participants through the workshop.
June, marked by the onset of exams, saw the Research Commons offering workshops designed to help students stay calm and focused. Due to high demand, IBM SPSS for Beginners was offered twice during the first semester, with both sessions proving to be insightful and engaging.
The workshop emphasised collaboration, with students grouped into teams to complete activities that reinforced their understanding of the material. The session covered the potential of statistical analysis using IBM SPSS, providing researchers with the knowledge to effectively utilize the software. Topics included an overview of the software, guidelines for downloading and installing it, an explanation of the two primary screen views, and a detailed discussion of variable properties. The facilitator also demonstrated the software's functionality, followed by quick, hands-on activities.
The Research Commons extends heartfelt thanks to all the students who participated and contributed to the success of this workshop. Your continued engagement is vital to your growth and development throughout your research journey.
