At the University of Pretoria's Merensky 2 Library, we recognise the invaluable contributions of our dedicated Collection Maintenance team in creating an enriching environment for scholarship, research, reading, and studying. This committed group - Tebogo Sithole (Level 6), Patson Nyalungu (Level 5), Vaydin Slaters (Level 2), and Calvyn Badenhorst (Level 1) - works tirelessly to ensure that our physical and digital collections are accessible and well-organized for our diverse academic community.
Their role goes far beyond maintenance; they are the backbone of our library's operations. Daily, they retrieve and shelve books, assist patrons in locating materials, and help users navigate our extensive library catalogue. They collaborate closely with other library units to meet specific resource needs, ensuring that essential information is always available for teaching and research. Additionally, while the library manages interlibrary loans, the Collection Maintenance team plays a crucial role in retrieving books for that department, fostering collaboration and resource-sharing across institutions.
The Learning Centre greatly benefits from their efforts, as the team ensures that educational materials are well-maintained and accessible for students. They also organise furniture and computer chairs as students come and go, maintaining a conducive atmosphere for study. Their meticulous shelving practices foster efficiency, making it easier for users to find the resources they need for academic success. Moreover, the team addresses wear and tear on physical materials through essential repair work, extending the life of our valuable collection and keeping it in excellent condition.
Beyond their operational duties, this team embodies the spirit of service and dedication to our academic mission. They take the time to guide new students and staff through the library, offering invaluable advice on how to maximize the use of our resources. Their involvement in library events adds excitement and engagement to our academic community, as they prepare necessary materials and encourage participation.
In conclusion, we are proud to introduce our Collection Maintenance team. Their unwavering commitment to ensuring a seamless library experience enhances our spaces for scholarship, research, reading, and studying. Collectively, they exemplify the importance of service and support, which is at the heart of what makes the Merensky 2 Library an essential resource for learning and discovery.
