Marketing honours students create a TikTok video for Italtile

Posted on October 24, 2022

In an effort to embark on the novel marketing platform TikTok, the team at Italtile turned to the BCom Marketing Management honours students at the University of Pretoria to create a TikTok video focused on the Italtile brand. This bonus challenge for the Strategic Marketing (SBB781) module is one of several collaborations between Italtile and the Department of Marketing Management over the last few years.

The intention of the collaboration was to get the students to create an exciting TikTok video focused on Italtile. Students could choose their own teams and had to choose one of three proposed themes to portray in their TikTok videos. The three themes were:

  1. Who is Italtile (their brand, their service offerings, their key differentiator)
  2. Italtile products (showcase Italtile’s products and unpack their key differentiator products)
  3. Italtile’s LiveGreen ethos (unpack their LiveGreen ethos and focus on their eco products and/or suppliers)

All TikTok’s went live on the platform on 12 October 2022. The top three videos were then selected by Italtile and their digital team, based on the team’s portrayal of the selected theme. The top three teams were each awarded a cash prize sponsored by Italtile.

Top three teams:

  • First team: Italtilers: Martyn Austin, Matthew Askew, Melissa Pretorius, Chloë White and Filip Jelic
  • Second team: Team Zebra: Marlie Viljoen and Johann Smidt
  • Third team: The Fantastic Floor: Tayo Croza, Julie Brink, Thabiso Mabula, and Sabrina de Aguiar
