Industry involvement

BOOST your BRAND with our

Consult-from-Classroom projects

  • Be one of our industry clients on a work-integrated-learning (WIL) project and allow our students to act as your consultants, solving real-life marketing-related challenges.
  • As an industry partner, you will gain new insight into your marketing challenges, ultimately being able to improve your marketing strategies and market share.

How can you participate in a Consult-from-Classroom project?

① Identify a current marketing problem experienced within your business that can be presented to our students as a marketing challenge.

② Contact us at [email protected] to express your interest in a ‘consult-from-classroom’ project. These projects range from short-term (2 weeks) to medium-term (6 weeks) to long-term (14 weeks).

③ Liaise with the coordinating lecturer for a respective module, and collaboratively develop a project brief with specific deliverables for the students. Minimal time and effort are expected from the industry partner, except to introduce your company/brand, and to be involved in the feedback presentations from the students. Lecturers will do all the planning and manage the project to ensure appropriate solutions are offered to you as the industry partner.

④ Make a financial contribution which mainly includes student prizes for the top teams together with a minimal management fee to customise the project to your needs.

⑤ Students work in teams to offer and present solutions to your marketing problem - acting as marketing consultants under the guidance of the lecturer. You have access to the suggested solutions to use or implement as needed. Some of our previous industry partners have contracted students to work with them to implement their proposed marketing solutions.

⑥ Appoint Marketing Management students from UP as they already know your brand. Also, due to our students being exposed to multiple work-integrated-learning projects on undergraduate and postgraduate levels, they are better prepared for the world of work.

To date, industry partners on ‘consult-from-classroom’ projects have included, but not limited to: Discovery, OUTsurance, Bosch SA, Italtile, Adcock Ingram, Coca-Cola, Bridgestone SA, Titans, Momentum, Veldskoen, Karoo lamb, Oasis, HERD trust, Nativa, Gautrain Management Agency, Fashion World, PPS, Vintage coffee, CIT Performance Institute, Amka, Major Tech, Wollies, Bramhope, Phyllis Robertson Home.
