The honours students in Marketing Management were tasked to develop an innovative and actionable integrated marketing communication (IMC) campaign, with the aim of entrenching the EMS mission – to be at the cutting edge of economic, financial and management education, research, and community engagement within the national, African and global context – in the minds of the Faculty’s diverse stakeholders, namely staff, students and alumni.
The students were very eager to create something special for their “home” Faculty and found this to be an especially heart-warming assignment. On 4 May 2022 the excited students gathered to present their campaigns to the panel, comprising representatives from the Office of the Dean of the EMS Faculty, namely the Faculty Manager Doret van der Westhuizen, the Faculty’s Marketing and Liaison Practitioners Nonkululeko Kubeka Moyo and Refilwe Mabula, and the former Dean of the EMS Faculty, Prof Elsabé Loots, as well as the Services Marketing lecturer, Dr Michelle C. van der Merwe.

The honours students certainly rose to the challenge and developed outstanding campaigns that left the panel speechless, including the 5 Leaf Clover’s ‘Levelling up’ campaign, Fireball’s Faculty-wide competition and creative staircase banner design, and Funky Facilitators’ ‘Education meets success’ campaign. However, it was the Alumni Alliance team that walked away as the top team for the evening, with their EMS4EVER campaign, targeting UP Alumni.

Overall, the evening was tremedous success. One of the panel members commented: “You have done exceptionally well, I am so impressed. I am so proud of this group of students and the caliber work your provided.” Their lecturer concurred, pointing out how much progress the honours group has made since the start of their postgraduate journey, recommending well-researched ideas, clearly becoming more confident with public speaking, and portraying an image of professionalism. Congratulations!
