Van Schaik Publishers, a leading academic publisher in South Africa, has been recruiting graduates from the University of Pretoria (UP) for decades, says Marius du Plessis, Business Development Manager for the company. Most recently, the well-known publisher reached out to the Department of Marketing Management, which falls under the UP Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences, to find a suitable candidate for their new internship programme.
This new internship opportunity, which is being presented for the first time this year, was made available exclusively to UP Marketing graduates, and includes a year-long workplace experience programme which started on 1 June 2022, and a bursary to the value of R81 000. The aim of the programme is to develop up-and-coming individuals with the right skills, to help set them on the path to a successful marketing career in the publishing industry.
The recipient, Tayo Croza, was “over the moon” to receive the good news. Croza, who is currently enrolled in the BCom Marketing Management honours programme at UP, expressed her excitement and gratitude toward Van Schaik Publishers for affording her the opportunity. “I believe that the year spent on the company’s sales and marketing team will be one of growth where I’ll be able to put the knowledge and skills I have obtained in my studies into practice, while gaining practical industry knowledge and adding value to the Van Schaik Publishers team,” she shared.
While only one lucky intern could be appointed, Du Plessis applauded the calibre of students that applied for the programme, and emphasised the difficulty with which only a single intern had to be selected from such a promising group of candidates. Van Schaik Publishers hopes to continue this internship programme in partnership with the Department of Marketing Management for years to come, and in so doing continue to strengthen its long-standing relationship and far-reaching history with the University.
