This year, a few of the BComHons (Marketing Management) students assisted with the event, particularly because these young marketers are full of energy. These students not only have a zeal for marketing, but could also advise prospective students on the University of Pretoria in general and provide detailed information on student life. Hundreds of potential students came to the stand to meet the marketing team and got to know more about BCom (Marketing Management) as a study choice and career. Pamphlets were handed out with quick response (QR)-codes and visitors could scan the unique barcode using their smartphone. The code took them to the Department’s website, where they could find more information on why to study marketing.
The Department also boasted its new curriculum, which incorporates a few practical projects and industry partners, such as Potatoes SA and the Gautrain. The Gautrain banner, where this year’s first-year students pledged their dreams and aspirations, was also displayed at the stand. The information sessions by Prof Yolanda Jordaan, Head of the Department of Marketing Management, proved to be very successful, with many learners asking to apply for the degree after attending a session. “We even had current students, parents and teachers enquiring about the Department’s postgraduate degrees,” says Prof Jordaan.
Overall, the event was a huge success, with some of the visitors commenting on how the Department displayed the energy of the subject field through their marketing material and its energetic staff and students!
