Marketing students meet the who's who of sports business leaders

Posted on November 11, 2013

The summit addressed a wide range of topics relevant to the industry, including governance, ethics, sponsorships, marketing and operations. Students were challenged to enter a competition in order to stand a chance to win a ticket to the Sport Industry Summit. For students interested in the world of sport, this was a wonderful opportunity to meet the top sport stars and sport business leaders from around the world.

The competition required students to provide a creative motivation of why they would like to work in the sports industry. Their motivations could be submitted in a variety of ways, such as social media, a picture or a written paragraph.

Exposure Unlimited was so inspired by students’ motivations that they decided to allow the top three students who entered to attend the summit. All three of these students major in BCom Recreation and Sports Management and take Marketing as a third-year subject. Two of the entries were essays and the third was a creative PowerPoint presentation. One of the students, Marike du Plessis, said the following after the event: “I loved every single moment of it and I am so grateful for the opportunity to attend. I never realised how many companies formed part of the sports industry and that it is growing exponentially. It made me very excited for the future.”

The Department of Marketing Management hopes to get involved in this event again next year in order to create opportunities and exposure for possible future careers in the field of sport management.
