BSc Four-year Programmes

There are three streams:

• Mathematical Sciences 
• Biological and Agricultural* Sciences 
• Physical Sciences 
*
 Take note that the Agricultural Sciences Programme is five years in length.
 

Students who wish to study Health Sciences and Veterinary Science should apply for the Biological stream of the BSc Four-year Programme. During the first year of the BSc Four-year Programme students may apply to the Faculty of Health Sciences. This Faculty admits students based on their performance in the first year of the programme. If accepted by the Faculty of Health Sciences the student leaves the programme at the end of the first year (after two semesters). Access to Health Sciences is not guaranteed as the numbers are limited.

During the third semester of the BSc Four-year Programme, students may apply to the Faculty of Veterinary Science. Access to the BVSc is not guaranteed as numbers are limited. 
Students who wish to study engineering should apply for the Physical Science stream of the BSc Extended Programme. During the first year of the BSc Four-year Programme, students may apply to the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology. This Faculty admits students based on their performance in the first year of the programme. If accepted by the Faculty of Engineering, Built Environment and Information Technology, the student leaves the programme at the end of the first year (after two semesters). Access to engineering is not guaranteed as numbers are limited.

Admission Requirements:

• Mathematical Sciences stream:
• National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission for degree purposes. 
• An Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 26 
• Mathematics: level 5 or better 
• Two languages, one has to be English or Afrikaans: level 4 
• Life Orientation: level 4 (Excluded when calculating the APS) 
• Three other subjects 
• Institutional Proficiency test (National Benchmark Test - NBT)

Biological and Agricultural Sciences or Physical Sciences streams
• National Senior Certificate (NSC) with admission for degree purposes 
• An Admission Points Score (APS) of at least 24 for Biological Sciences and 26 for Physical Sciences 
• Mathematics: level 4 
• Physical Science: level 4 
• Two languages, one has to be English or Afrikaans: level 4 
• Life Orientation: level 4 (Excluded when calculating the APS) 
• Two other subjects: level 4 
• Institutional Proficiency test (National Benchmark Test - NBT)

All prospective students must write the NBT. Students are advised to write the test between July and October. Please visit our website for information on registration procedures for the NBT at:www.nbt.ac.za

The Four-year Programmes’ placement is based on the final Grade 12 results combined with the NBT results.
There is a limited number of places.
