Important information from the HR office

Please take note of the following:

1.       Home Affairs Directive 29 of 2011 refers
Due to a recent change in interpretation by the Chief Director of Permits at the Department of Home Affairs Head Office in South Africa, a directive has been issued regarding the issuance of section 11(2) visitor's visas/permits.

The Directive confirms that a section 11(2) visitor's visa/permit will be considered as a once off, non-renewable visa/permit that addresses an immediate short term or urgent need for a limited duration of work activity that cannot be met by an application for a work permit.

Furthermore, should an applicant wish to obtain a section 11(2) visitor's visa/permit, an application must be made in writing to the Director-General by the entity for which the applicant will be rendering services to confirm why such person cannot apply for a work permit and the reasons why the limited duration work envisaged is necessary and urgent.

Price Waterhouse Coopers (PWC) is currently communicating with the Department of Home Affairs regarding the implementation of this Directive and implications thereof. We are aware that certain South African Missions abroad have implemented the Directive and as a result are no longer accepting section 11(2) visitor's visa applications. As a result, these Missions have requested that the assignees affected apply for and obtain the required work permit to South Africa.

This Directive has been distributed to all ports of entry, South African Missions abroad and regional offices of the Department of Home Affairs for immediate implementation.
