There is a vast difference between living at home and going to high school and juggling the responsibilities of a university student with the new-found freedom of being an independent adult. Between making new friends, enjoying student life, following a busy class schedule, completing assignments on time and studying for exams, students have a lot of responsibilities to juggle.
If a good balance isn’t found between your academic life and social student life, this can lead to poor academic performance. Should your grades fall below certain criteria, the University of Pretoria can exclude you from your study programme
What is an academic exclusion?
An academic exclusion, which means you’re not allowed to continue your studies because of your academic performance. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to appeal this decision – but remember, it’s always better to act early and consult your Academic Success Coach to prevent an academic exclusion.
What to do if you have an academic exclusion
It only takes a few steps to complete the registration process:
1 Check the UP Student Portal at for an exclusion letter from your Faculty, and your email for any letters.
2 Prepare a submission for Faculty appeal.
3 If your appeal was successful, you will be readmitted to your study programme.
4
If your appeal was unsuccessful, you have one last opportunity to request the Senate Review Committee on Readmission to review the process of your faculty appeal outcome.
