Postgraduate Students

As a postgraduate student at the University of Pretoria, you need to complete the registration process before your honour’s degree, master’s degree, or doctorate starts . This is a very important step to ensure you have access to annual academic course material, the UP student portal and other essential information.

Remember to read your faculty yearbook as well during the registration process, as it contains more specific faculty rules and regulations.

Why am I struggling to register?

Due to various reasons, such as outstanding tuition fees, a hold may be placed on a student’s account that prevents them from registering successfully.

To review your registration status, follow these steps:

1 Log in to the UP Student Portal.

2 Click on the UP Student Centre link.

3 Check for holds in the right column of the student centre.

Academic exclusions

You’ve got a lot on your plate—classes, assignments, exams, and everything else life throws at you. Don’t let an unexpected academic exclusion add to the stress. Academic exclusion means you’re not allowed to continue your studies due to your grades.

The good news? You can take steps to appeal this decision. Even better? You can act early to avoid it altogether. Reach out to your Academic Success Coach for support and guidance to stay on track and ensure your academic success.

Student cards

Your student card is an identity card, transaction card, and access card – all in one! With your unique student card, you can purchase meals at your residence’s dining hall, access campuses, academic buildings such as the libraries, and verify your identity before writing tests and examinations.
