Student portal

The University of Pretoria’s student portal, also known as the UP Portal, is every student’s 24/7 gateway to a world of essential information. Every student’s UP Login contains details uniquely applicable to them and their course – from the year’s academic calendar to exam results.

Once a student logs in with their personal login details, they can access the following:

  • Academic calendar
  • Admission for online applications
  • Application status
  • Exam results
  • UP course registrations
  • Payment of acceptance fees
  • Payment of fees
  • Timetables

Remember to regularly access your UP Portal page for the latest information on your study course.

How do I access the UP Portal?

Applicants will only be able to access the UP Student Portal once they have received a UP student number, such as u23123456.

  1. Click on ‘My UP Login’.
  2. Click on the ‘New users’ link on the UP Student Portal login page.
  3. Log in with your username, which is ’u’ followed by the eight digit UP student number that appears on your student card or application letter (e.g. u12345678).
  4. Follow the process to create and save a password.
  5. Select three questions from the list of challenge questions.
  6. Enter and save the answers to the challenge questions.
  7. Walk-in support to all students is available at the various campus computer facilities.
  8. You can also make use of our Service Management System to raise a service request for the relevant team: https://upsmax.up.ac.za/saw/ess

What if I lose my UP Portal password?

If you have forgotten or lost your UP password, you can reset it. Simply click the ‘Lost password’ link and then provide your username.

If you are still experiencing difficulty logging in, you can contact the IT Help Desk who will assist you on (012) 420 3837.
