In a convergence of academic acumen and the picturesque charm of Lyon, France, the 29th Recent Advances in Retailing and Consumer Sciences (RARCS) Conference took centre stage between 24 and 27 July 2023. Scholars from over 30 countries across the globe convened to explore the frontiers of retailing and consumer services.

Among these academics, Dr Rejoice J. Tobias-Mamina, a senior lecturer from the Department of Marketing Management at the University of Pretoria, displayed her expertise and insights. She presented two thought-provoking papers that ignited spirited discussions amongst the scholars.

Her first paper, entitled ‘Offer valid for 2 days – The impact of purchase pressure cues on online deal choice’, delved into the intricate interplay between psychology and consumer behaviour. Dr Tobias-Mamina presented her research on the impact of purchase pressure cues on online deal choices. Her paper revealed how time-limited offers exert subtle yet significant influence, driving consumers to make decisions under the ticking clock of opportunity.

Her second paper, themed ‘Sustainable clothing consumption: Towards a conceptual framework’, unfolded a conceptual framework for sustainable clothing consumption that harmonises environmental responsibility with fashion choices. This innovative perspective challenged conventional notions and paved the way for a more eco-conscious retail landscape.

In the ever-evolving landscape of retailing and consumer sciences, the RARCS conference remains a guiding star for scholars towards a brighter and more informed future, shaping participants’ understanding of the consumer-driven world.
