The Marketing Management honours programme prepares students for the world of work through real-life client challenges incorporated into the modules. In addition, students are encouraged to participate in vacation work and internship opportunities. Discovery provided the BCom Honours Marketing Management students with the opportunity to participate in its annual internship programme during the 2019 July recess. The Discovery internship programme is an intense two-week programme (from 30 June to 13 July), for which interns from various tertiary education institutions are recruited to work on various assignments. The interns are exposed to the organisation’s brand and corporate culture.
Following the internship, two of the UP honours students, Amy Martin and Dibueng Bosman, were offered full time positions. Dr Michelle van der Merwe, one of the honours lecturers, commented as follow: “We are extremely proud of our students and wish them well in their careers!”
Comments made by the interns:
The Discovery internship programme experience exceeded all my expectations. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the two weeks spent with Discovery. I was exposed to a wide variety of concepts, ideas and situations, which all reassured me that marketing was the right degree choice for me. This experience broadened the way I think. Discovery presented me with the most amazing opportunity, and I could not be more grateful.

The Discovery internship programme taught me that no two days are the same in the world of marketing. I was exposed to the fast-paced, exciting environment of the corporate world. We presented our marketing solutions to eight different portfolio challenges within two weeks. I learnt so much from the executive members and marketing teams both inside and outside the office. Thank you, Discovery, for such a golden opportunity.

My experience of the Discovery internship programme was nothing short of amazing. I gained appreciation for teamwork during the two weeks. It was wonderful to see how different people’s minds work and how all the different ideas meshed together into an implementable project. I would definitely recommend the Discovery internship programme to any student. Thank you, Discovery, for this amazing opportunity – I was so fortunate to be part of this experience!

The Discovery internship programme was an unforgettable experience for me. I definitely learnt a lot and became more knowledgeable, not only about Discovery as an organisation, but also about different ways of marketing brands. The programme taught me how to work with people from different backgrounds that think differently. The dynamics in our group challenged my thinking process and allowed me to see things differently. Thank you to Discovery for this amazing opportunity!
