• Jarred Martin (Psychology) published an article in the Mail & Guardian on The quiet violence of inaction – we need to do better on gender-based violence
• Reema Nunlall (Social Work) published the opinion article The 4IR can enable Ubuntu for greater impact in addressing violence against women and girls in the Daily Maverick
• Alf Nilsen (Sociology) appeared on:
  • SAFM’s Worldview Update to discuss the repeal of controversial farm laws in India
  • Khrono (Norwegian newspaper) about the impact of the Omicron-strain, the Covid-19 pandemic, and the racist bias of the international travel bans on South African academia
• Thula Simpson’s (Historical & Heritage Studies) new book is reviewed in The Conversation in the article New book on South Africa’s history puts black people at the centre, for a change

Conference presentations

• Benda Hofmeyr (Philosophy) presented:
  • the paper titled A Philosophical Reflection on the Legacy of Albert Luthuli at the Luthuli Celebration Day
  • a paper on The Place of Eschatology in Levinas’s Conceptualization of Time at the 7^th Annual International Conference of the Centre for Phenomenology in South Africa
• Peggie Chiwara (Social Work and Criminology) presented a keynote address on social work and sustainable development at the Tanzania Association of Social Workers (TASWO) Social Workers Conference and AGM 2021
• Marc Wegerif (Archaeology & Anthropology) presented The Impact of COVID-19 on Black Farmers in South Africa at a seminar convened by the National Agricultural Marketing Council and also published an article in The Conversation on the same topic
• ESI Press launched its latest publication EarthSongs at an event at the Melrose Gallery
• Keolebogile Mbebe (Philosophy) published the article The At-Least Syndrome is behind calls to treat De Klerk with nuance on News24
• UP Campus Tours presented the ATLAS Africa Webinar on Mental Health the New Wealth in Social Prescribing Tourism
• Henning Melber (Political Sciences) delivered a public lecture at the University of Perugia on the topic In the Shadow of Genocide: German-African relations between colonial amnesia and decolonisation
• Theo van Wuk (School of the Arts) was involved in three events: 
  • with Isabelle van Rensburg at the School of the Arts Organ Recital Series 2021
  • with 5 other organists at the Southern African Church and Concert Organists Society AGM 2021
  •  at the ATKV Tonteldoos Concert Series 2021
• Maggi Loubser (School of the Arts) presented How does an Analytical Chemist and Material Scientist land in a Heritage Conservation programme? to the Chemistry Department’s monthly colloquia series at Loyola University Chicago
• Pineteh Angu (Unit for Academic Literacy) presented Asylum interviews in South Africa and Sweden: Experiences, interpretations and negotiations at a research seminar on migration, citizenship and belonging organised by the Centre for Concurrences in Colonial and Postcolonial Studies at Linnaeus University, Sweden

• Alf Nilsen (Sociology) published the article Love Jihad and the Governance of Gender and Intimacy in Hindu Nationalist Statecraft in Religions
