• Hein Willemse (Afrikaans) published: • Commentaries in his regular column on Netwerk24.com on Parliament speaker Thandi Modise’s animal cruelty court case and the current conflict in Israel and Gaza • Wrote a tribute to the ANC uMkhonto we Sizwe combatant Cecyl Esau that was published on Littnet • Interviewed by MGT Live on the history and perceptions of the Afrikaans. • CAAC was featured, amongst others, in the #Activated Series on SABC 2 which explores the human rights of people living with disabilities
• Christiaan Bezuidenhout and Harriét Klopper (Social Work and Criminology) contributed to the article Concerns raised over Worsening DNA backlog published in The Citizen
• Harriét Klopper (Social Work and Criminology) also commented on the implications of a fake kidnapping for an article in The Citizen titled ‘Attention-seeking’ woman arrested for fake kidnapping released on bail

• Nhlanhla Mnisi (African Languages) hosted a virtual seminar on Translating Citizen Science Tools: Potential, Challenges and Future Directions
Publications on academic platforms
• Christopher Nshimbi (Political Sciences) together with Ernest Aniche and Innocent Moyo published the article Interrogating the nexus between irregular migration and insecurity along ‘ungoverned’ border spaces in West Africa in the African Security Review
• Leon Mwamba Tshimpaka and Christopher Nshimbi (Political Sciences) together with Innocent Moyo have published the new book Regional Economic Communities and Integration in Southern Africa: Networks of Civil Society Organizations and Alternative Regionalism with Palgrave Macmillan
• Lufuno Sadiki and Francois Steyn (Social Work & Criminology) published the article Sticky Floors and Glass Ceilings: Transformation of a Criminology Journal in Post-Apartheid South Africa in the Journal of Criminal Justice Education
Scheduled Events
1. Charles van Onselen (Historical & Heritage Studies) will present the lecture Booking the thesis: Turning postgraduate research into a monograph on 7 June 2021 between 15:00-17:00. Click here to attend.
2. UP Archives has launched the “Recollecting COVID-19 – 365 days under lockdown” competition. Entries can be submitted to UP Archives with your name, student / personnel number, degree / faculty / support service department and contact details.
3. Tangible Heritage Conservation programme (School of the Arts) will host the Global Consortium for the Preservation of Cultural Heritage’s annual meeting between 28-29 October 2021.
